Tom L. Clark, L.C.S.W., M.S.W.
Biography
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, and I work in Berkeley, California, where I have been in private practice over 30 years. I do both short-term and long-term individual psychotherapy, couples therapy, and Masters & Johnson-based sex therapy for couples.
I did my graduate work at the University of California at Berkeley, where I received my M.S.W. degree in 1967. After a year in India on a Fullbright fellowship, I worked for a year at the University of California Institute of Human Development, and subsequently for four years in the field of family planning as Training Director for the Alameda/San Francisco affiliate of Planned Parenthood.
After I went into private practice in 1971, I became very interested in the field of human sexuality, and I received extensive professional training through the University of California Medical School in San Francisco. The treatment of individuals and couples with sexual problems has been a part of my practice since then, along with individual psychotherapy and couples therapy.
I have taught Human Sexuality classes to graduate students in Psychology at various Bay area colleges and universities, and I have lectured extensively on various aspects of this topic at hospitals, mental health agencies, and schools.
I have been married for 42 years, and my wife Johanna is also a therapist with a practice in Berkeley. We have two sons: Dylan, who has a Ph.D. in Anthropology from the University of Washington; he and his wife are both on the faculty at the University of Toronto, and have two children. Our other son, Benjamin, has lived in Portland, Oregon for many years, where he is a painter, a sculptor and a master carpenter.
